The Internet Archive has been digitizing LP's at a slow rate for the last couple of years. We would like to ramp up in the near future. We are re-looking at our technology to do this. We would like to bring some engineering to this process-- studies on audio fidelity with different equipemnt.

We are currently using Sony turntables and going into a computer running audacity to create WAV files which we then derive into other formats. How accessible these can be is a separate issue. Right now we are working on preservation.

The help we could use is programmer help to help compare audio files to detect faults-- the thought is to use a few different setups to record the same test record (with sin waves and the like) and compare them statistically.

For those that are interested and technical enough to help in this project, please contact brewster@archive.org.

Thank you.

A fellow taper passed this along: "There is a strong subset of the vinyl community that likes to engage in "needle dropping" - HQ digitizing of vinyl. There are a lot of folks who are into that on this board, http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/ I'd ask there for sure. "
